We’re inviting renters in New South Wales to take part in our Renter Lab citizen science project, as part of the national Healthy Homes for Renters campaign!

Together, we’re working towards minimum energy efficiency standards for rental homes across Australia. Right now, too many rental properties are missing the basics that help keep people safe and healthy in summer - insulation, air conditioning, or even proper draughtsealing. This means renters often face higher energy bills, uncomfortable homes, and greater risks during extreme heat than homeowners do. Everyone deserves a home that protects our health and is affordable to live in.

As a Renter Researcher, you’ll help us build the evidence we need to make change. Over the summer, you’ll keep track of the temperature inside your home and share your experiences of renting through hot weather. Your contributions will help us tell a powerful, collective story about the reality of renting in NSW and show why we need stronger protections for renters.

It doesn’t take specialist skills or a big time commitment: all that matters is your experience as a renter. We'll do all the legwork, provide you with a temperature-tracker, and crunch the numbers. By taking part, you’ll join of a growing community of renters across the country who are pushing for healthier, fairer homes, you'll have real data about the unhealthy temperatures in your home, and you'll be contributing to research that we'll use to advocate for reforms!
