How does this affect you?

I work in childcare. If my centre were to be shut down, and because I wasn’t working that would mean I wouldn’t be earning any $$$ which would mean I couldn’t pay rent.

What impact is the coronavirus having on you or people you care about? What makes you support an #evictionmoratorium now?

Because everyone deserves the support they need in these unprecedented times, & evicting people during a pandemic endangers not only their lives, but everyone’s- it’s extremely difficult for people to self-isolate and maintain hygiene if they have no home.

people who rent should protected during this pandemic – it is unconscionable that they would be evicted during this time or saddled with an impossible to pay rent in arrears. A home is indispensable for human life and no person or family should be deprived of shelter, especially during winter and the ongoing Covid-19.

Continuing the moratorium post 30/9/20 will give tenants the home stability and the time needed for the economy to recover, for the availability and range of jobs to return & increase, for tenants to secure employment to then be in a position to repay debts incurred since March. Without this we will see a huge increase of tenants becoming homeless. It is a perverse outcome for Govts to then (maybe) fund the (already overwhelmed and poorly funded) homelessness sector to deal with the huge increase in people needing support, when some simple humanitarian well timed policy changes and rental subsidies could have prevented long term unemployment and homelessness.
